Due to the fact that more and more systems were to be substituted within SCA with different SAP R/3 modules or to communicate with SAP R/3 a need for applications management and development competence, both local and including high systems and industry knowledge.

Solution:
Form the beginning of 2000 SAP is a part of the applications management and development contract between Sogeti and SCA Skog and SCA Timber. The modules included are FI, CO, AA, SD, MM, PP, PM and SAP/XI and SAP/BW. The services included are support (first line), maintenance, development and service management.

Develop applications quicker, on-time, on-budget and at a higher quality – what to do?

Within the Swedish Tax Authority a large number of new applications are developed each year, often in hurry due to new regulations from the government. Internal departments tested their applications differently, bringing changes in delivery and quality, costing the tax payers money.

Solution:
As a close and trustworthy test partner Sogeti was asked to analyze and evaluate the organization’s testing maturity level by using the Sogeti analysis model Test Process Improvement – TPI®. After the TPI assessment process improvements were implemented throughout the organization by the implementation of Sogeti’s method for structured testing TMap® and a permanent testing organization was created to generate larger and long-term efficiency improvements.

My embedded software department is not considered efficient – what to do?

System designers thought that software developers were not reliable, not cost efficient and not open to new development practices. The manager of the embedded software department agreed that improvements were required on both sides.

Solution:

Sogeti High Tech organized a benchmark, involving 8 industrial companies with similar projects but with no competitive overlap, to evaluate both practices and performances. The comparison between all companies allowed factual comparisons and helped identify several levers of progress that were accessible for the customer and proven by other companies to be profitable. Sogeti High Tech contributed to extract, formalize and promote the changes required by these levers and we supported the first step of their implementation.

Too many licenses to handle - what to to?

SNCF had multiple licenses to manage, heterogeneity of monitoring from one data center to another, no clear roadmap of the other ISV's strategy to go to Business Systems Management.    

Solution:
Migration from CA and BMC to Tivoli ; monitoring of several thousands of servers from a unified platform. First step of a plan leading to Business Monitoring. Solutions pushed by Sogeti are efficient due to the Sogeti intimacy of the technical teams from years and years and a strong training program supported by IBM Education and labs.

Better way to share information and knowledge for sales force - what to do?

Groupama needed a portal showing a new approach to a population of salesreps.  

Solution: Groupama implemented a new architecture of portal based on IBM WebSphere Portal for the 2000 salesrep of Groupama. Solutions pushed by Sogeti are efficient due to the Sogeti management's intimacy with the customer's management from years and years to solve the problems of a very tough ambitious project such as this one.

This machine used to be the leader in its field but its embedded software had become too big and too anarchic: each minor change needed all the resources of the software department and it was not possible anymore to forecast any relevant delivery deadline.

Solution:

Sogeti High Tech worked closely with all the experts of this machine to identify which parts could be revamped independently from the others, which parts needed most to be reorganized and how, what impact the machine roadmap could have on the structure of the software. In few weeks, Sogeti High Tech proposed a stepwise refurbishment of the software architecture, consistent with the product roadmap, aligned with all machine usages (operation, maintenance, calibration…) and that guaranteed fast and stable releases to feed the market. Sogeti High Tech coached the first step of reengineering, by the end of which the customer was able to develop a significantly new type of solution in less than half the time and effort it would have taken without the architecture revamping.


Old-fashioned and hard to update intranet with weak document management – what to do?
The Energy Agency had an intranet based on a Notes platform but the solution was costly and the system nor built for the future, nor handling the large demands for a powerful document management.

Solution:
Sogeti developed a personlised website, easily updated and managed, with a powerful solution for document management and an extensive search function.  This by combining as the client expressed it “the best of two worlds”, web content management platform EPiServer and portal solution Microsoft SharePoint.


Need for all information and services in one place and on an industry standard solution – what to do?

The University of Chalmers needed a one entrance portal for all students, gathering all information and services to the students. They wanted to use industry standard solutions rather than building a solution of their own.

Solution:
The result is a new technological platform, based on Microsoft Technology, service oriented architecture (SOA) and the Sogeti SeamLESS approach. A structured way of working has been implemented As sources for the services that are created there is re-use of existing databases and systems. As method the Sogeti DYA approach (Dynamic Enterprise Architecture) has been used and SOA aspects of the Sogeti book SOA for Profit.

Man machine interface tests are long, repetitive and quite boring – What can I do ?

Set top boxes are now providing various services over television, such as Video On Demand (VOD) or content recording. These systems, based on a generic framework, are customized for every providers, countries, and versions. They are completely controlled via multiple graphical menus. This large variability leads to a huge test workload, for each version of each product. The classic approach to perform these tests is based on manual tests campaigns, executing tests scenarios with remote control, in front of TV screens. The Digital Television products development cycle are quite short, and new releases, even after deployment, are very frequent (up to 1 per week).

Solution:
SOGETI High Tech has developed an innovative Autotest solution. With Autotest framework, the tester defines products, tests scenarios and validation campaigns, with a complete compliancy to project QA testing tools such as Salomé (Open Source) or HP-Mercury Quality Center.The Odyssee module helps to load the product definition: menus, expected results, and screen copies. The Illiade module helps to generate the test scenarios just using the mouse. A full log of the test campaign is automatically generated with the test results and the screen differences if a bug was found. Using Autotest, the tester focuses his time on test scenarios and bug analysis rather than performing manual tests.

 

Deliver a strategic application on time – How to do it

Air Traffic Management systems have to be tested using Air traffic simulation applications. The on-time delivery of a mastered quality simulator is vital for the global schedule. But of course the development of such an application depends on the specification of the ATM system. How to test the simulator against evolving specifications?

Solution:
Sogeti Testing best practices provide a set of tools that can be used efficiently in such a case. First a Test Strategy has to be defined and updated according to the business needs. This is the Business Driven Test Management (BDTM) approach. Then a structured test process must be defined. This test life-cycle, part of Test Management Approach (TMap®), enables the anticipation of most of the tests tasks, letting only the test execution on the project critical path. Finally, considering the number of versions, test automation should be considered for non regression functional tests


Re-use of solutions in a high tech environment – what to do?

Swisslog-Accalon conducts customer developed development and production of automated material handling solutions. In each client project the solution was unique. Lacking an effective way of re-using solutions, Swisslog-Accalon wanted to implement a solution for automatically generated models and structures, a solution with high demands on technology.

Solution:
Several systems have been installed to make the wishes of Swisslog-Accalon come true such as the PDM system Enovia SmarTeam from Dassault Systèmes. SmarTeam was integrated with the CAD system Solid Edge from Siemens PLM Software and AutoCAD from Autodesk, ERP system IFS99 and med ConGen, a Swisslog-Accalon CAD generation system. During the project several work processes were also reviewed such as processes for change requests, change orders and production orders. The project also handled migration of data form file systems to the PDM system.

 

Mobile solution for inspectors needed – what to do?

At SSAB the use of red-tape by inspectors checking information such as temperature, pressure and other parameters was extensive, making it time-consuming to find information and hard to overlook trends and to analyze data. SSAB wanted a simple way of over viewing statistics from inspector rounds.

Solution:
The solution implemented by Sogeti is a mobile device solution with Windows Mobile as operative system. An industrial handheld computer has been equipped with bar code readers. All red tap has been eliminated by putting the information directly into a database through active sync. This makes inspection information easy to follow up and both time and costs are saved making SSAB look further into how to improve its operations through mobile solutions.

I want to automate my product’s test process – what can I do?

Products are submitted to important constraints: reduced time to market and cost pressure with the same high quality level requirements. Test automation would enable the reduction of testing time and elimination of boring and repetitive tasks. In that context, testers would focus on other key testing issues such as enlarging test coverage for a better monitored and accurate product quality.

Solution:
Sogeti High Tech has developed a methodology specifically aimed at helping industrials to meet these challenges: the TAKT (Test Automation and Knowledge Tools) module of TEPS (Testing for Physics and Systems). TAKT identifies those tasks within your test process that have the greatest potential for automation on the basis of two main criteria: feasibility and relevance. Only then is a thorough study performed by Sogeti’s experts. This study naturally encompasses different technical solutions, but also three standard rational criteria: the risk delta, so that the new automated process does not add to the risk associated with the original process, the coverage delta, since automated tasks will often allow for more test coverage, and finally ROI, since, as for any decision in the business-driven test environment advocated by TEPS, automation has to be systematically justified on economic grounds. Using Sogeti High Tech’s approach to test automation, industrials are able to launch their preferred solution’s development and deployment with confidence in its ultimate success.

Sogeti High Tech Simulation Centre contributes to expand the use of numerical simulation within the industry. This is a way of accelerating project development and anticipating major changes at every stage of project development. Our Simulation Offering is built with a crossover between Research and Development (R&D) practices around numerical simulation and the knowledge of our Group in information systems. The aim of the Offering is to build and develop engineering information systems dedicated to R&D, to be able to leverage expertise across the company, to publish validated methods, to ensure the profitability of all the data companies are generating during the development cycles of the product.



Visible control over results in a high expansion phase – what to do?

Expanding strongly and rapidly, Diaverum was in a desperate need for a flexible solution providing control over how the companies within the Group are doing, keeping up patient care and good treatment results. With a planned expansion of several clinics a month the IT support needed to visualize the group’s data had to be easy to integrate with new systems and partners.

Solution
The new business intelligence and award winning solution with scorecards was implemented in only three months. With Microsoft PerformancePoint Server, service oriented architecture (SOA) and a new Datawarehouse as a foundation all financial and medical data of the entire group was put in one single place. When the new solution was demonstrated at the Diaverum controller conference it was met by standing ovations. Finally we have a tool that visualizes how each clinic contributes to the Group both regarding treatment results and economy and we can grow keeping full control, said Diaverum.

Need more experts now! – what to do?
Ericsson needed engineers with high technical competence mainly within areas such as telecommunication, networks and Linux due to a move of operations from one site to another.

Solution:
Sogeti contributed with experts and developed a production test for a number of system products making pre-tests for Ericsson clients possible from any production site, not only the one that had to be moved.
