Sogeti testing expertise is just what the doctor ordered

A US healthcare payer chose Sogeti to optimize its Quality Engineering & Testing processes. We worked closely with the client to create efficiencies, increase test coverage, reduce the cost of testing, increase product speed-to-market and reduce production defects.

The client provides medical and behavioral health coverage to midwest customers in the United States. Through a charitable foundation and a research division, they also focus on improving community health through volunteer community activities. In addition, the client offers Medicare and Medicaid government healthcare options to customers.

The need: Improve the client’s Quality Engineering & Testing health

This client was largely satisfied with the Quality Engineering & Testing services that our embedded teams had been providing for three years. However, both partners were committed to continuous improvement, which led to collaboration on a plan to streamline and optimize the existing testing landscape. We needed to eliminate the inefficiencies that existed due to the diverse tools and processes in operation across the enterprise.

No common standards were in place, and the client recognized the need for improvements. Over 15 scrum teams with embedded testers were working independently; pre-production testing lasted 10-15 weeks, and production defects were common. Reliance on manual processes for application testing was resource-intensive, resulting in long test cycles and delayed product releases.

The solution: A better prescription for efficiency

Backed by our Capgemini Group capabilities, we took a 360° approach to increasing efficiencies and coverage, while remaining mindful of the existing working practices of the client’s scrum teams. To keep disruption to a minimum, we created a shared services layer to support the teams through testing standards, regression testing, integration testing and a framework for automation. We also worked with the client’s scrum teams to improve process rigor and automated test coverage, smoothing the bumps in the road. In line with our ‘Right here. Right now.’ approach, agile delivery of tried-and-tested solutions got the job done swiftly, with built-in scope for future scalability.

The outcome: A clean bill of health for Quality

Working side-by-side with the client , we have been able to shift the needle on quality, thanks to clear quality gates, preventing UAT and Production defects. In addition, we automated 70% of regression testing and implemented daily smoke tests to improve quality and catch integration issues early.

A new common test management tool with live dashboards provides reporting across all scrum teams, to make sure everyone has real-time access to the information they need. Finally, we set up a multi-faceted enterprise-level end-to-end regression test suite, to validate converted data and provide end-to-end enrolment and claims processes, batch jobs and UI validation.

Overall, quality for our client is looking a lot healthier, with more robust and reliable processes – all thanks to our timely intervention.
