Through LinkedIn, I built a network of over 20,000 followers and unlocked new career opportunities. In this post, I share my best strategies for making meaningful connections and building a strong personal brand, so you can enhance your LinkedIn journey too.

A couple of weeks ago, I shared a new milestone reaching 20K Followers on LinkedIn and my story of how I started using that platform completely randomly when I was 19 Years Old.

A few years after starting my career as a software tester in 2015, I realized that establishing a strong thought leadership presence is our field of expertise is important.

In this blog, I’d like to share with you how strategic engagement on LinkedIn has led to remarkable achievements, and a few tips for you if you want to start your journey that may help.

Consistency in posting about my experiences, learnings, and conference takeaways has significantly enhanced my visibility and networking opportunities. This engagement has opened doors for workshops, presentations, and connections with industry leaders globally.

Content creation tips and LinkedIn engagement

Here are several practices that I have applied for maintaining LinkedIn engagement while creating content:

  • Integrate posting into my routine: I made posting a natural and enjoyable part of my routine rather than a must.
  • Diversify content types: I keep my audience engaged by using a variety of content types, including text, photos, polls, videos, PDFs, and blogs. I also vary my posts between short and long formats and adjust the formatting to fit different contexts.
  • Storytelling and Questions: I connect with my audience by incorporating storytelling and posing questions to encourage reflection and interaction.
  • Maintain quality over quantity: I prioritize quality content over frequent posting and avoid overusing external links, numerous mentions, or excessive hashtags. It’s fine if not every post is a hit.

LinkedIn related achievements

My commitment to thought leadership has led to different achievements, including recognition from LinkedIn. They acknowledged me as a highly active user in the French testing community and invited me to record a course on Fundamentals of Software Testing (French) in their studio. This experience also allowed me to connect with other LinkedIn authors, gaining valuable insights and inspiration.

Another course about Test Automation was released recently and you can find the link here (in French also)

Another success story is the use of my personal hashtag #ExploreWithEmna, which I introduced in February 2023. I use this hashtag in every post. It has helped boost community engagement and enhance the visibility of my older posts.

How what benefits me can benefit you, too

Creating content can be done in many ways, although vlogs are still a bit out of my comfort zone, they are fun to do.

Also because it was your most voted option in my recent POLLS. I wanted to share with you my tips for effective vlogging.

LinkedIn polls

  • Just go for it: I record and share my content, even if it’s not perfect.
  • Practice makes perfect: I have experienced that I became better at vlogging over time. Recording has become more natural and quicker.
  • I keep it short: Aim for 45-90 seconds for optimal engagement.
  • I record in the vertical format: It’s easier and and more compatible with social media platforms.

I hope my experience and LinkedIn Tips will inspire you to start your thought leadership journey in your field of expertise.

I created my LinkedIn account at 19, mostly out of curiosity. My goal was to test LinkedIn’s “publish a new post” feature through Facebook to see if two social networks could merge. You could call it teenage curiosity! 😂
