When Alfa Laval set out to streamline and unify its financial reporting processes, it turned to Sogeti for support. The collaboration focused on implementing a Power BI solution featuring automated data updates and a scalable, user-friendly interface to enhance reporting efficiency and accessibility.

Founded in 1883, Alfa Laval is a leading global supplier of premium products in heat transfer, separation, and fluid handling. With customers in approximately 100 countries, Alfa Laval employs more than 22,300 people, holds over 4,200 patents, and had annual sales of
SEK 66.9 billion (EUR 5.8 billion) in 2024.

Background

Alfa Laval aimed to bring greater clarity and consistency to its financial reporting across the organization and its three core divisions: Energy, Food & Water, and Marine. Previously, reporting processes were handled manually using a variety of tools and methodologies, leading to inefficiencies and inconsistencies.

To address this, Alfa Laval sought a future-proof, scalable solution that would standardize reporting practices. A key priority was to create a user-centric experience, with a strong emphasis on data visualization aligned with Alfa Laval’s brand identity and graphic profile.

Business Needs & Issue

  • Alfa Laval prioritized creating clarity and uniformity in financial reporting within the organization and its three divisions: “Energy”, “Food & Water”, and “Marine”.
  • The work, which was previously managed manually with various tools and methods, would now be future proofed with a scalable Power BI solution.
  • A clear request was also to focus on users and data visualization that follows Alfa Laval’s graphic profile.

Our approach

By applying Alfa Laval’s brand identity, where color and typography were used to reinforce the message, and with a clear focus on visualizing data for the purpose and the user, a user interface was created in the reports that effectively facilitates the understanding of trends, outliers, and patterns in the data.

Over nine months, front-end and UX resources from Sogeti and frog, a leading global creative consultancy and part of Capgemini Invent, worked iteratively and holistically with a project group and a reference group at Alfa Laval.

The starting point was a “Proof of Concept” in the design tool Figma. During the close collaboration that followed, users and use cases were identified, laying the foundation for the final Power BI solution.
